World Cup 2018

For one month, every four years, global attention shifts to the beautiful game of soccer. The World Cup is a sporting event like no other, one which thrives off the accessibility and ubiquitous nature of football. Diehards and casual fans alike file into stadiums, city squares, pubs, cafes, and living rooms to cheer on their home or newly adopted nations. Moments of magic on the pitch transcend both the boundaries of country and shackles of language.

At Selman Design, our studio was no exception. As we counted down the days to kick-off, lines were drawn, dividing rooting interests and paving the way for some good-natured smack talk. We quickly realized we needed to channel our obsession into a creative outlet. Design Director, Anne Di Lillo proposed to commemorate the event with a design for each of the national teams. She developed some design parameters and the entire Selman crew joined in the spirit and contributed illustrations. When it dawned on us that there were 32 team illustrations and 32 panels on a traditional ball, we had no choice but to create a custom Selman WC18 match ball and companion booklet.
